Passenger numbers at Fukuoka Airport are projected to reach 28.56 million in fiscal 2025, a 5% increase from the previous year and the third consecutive annual record, according to operator Fukuoka International Airport Co. The total surpasses the airport’s medium-term target of 28 million passengers for fiscal 2028, achieving the goal three years ahead of schedule. Domestic passengers are expected to rise 4% to 19.39 million, while international travelers are projected to increase 8% to 9.16 million, driven largely by strong demand from South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. The operator said that despite ongoing reductions in China routes, where passenger numbers have dropped by about 60%, growth on other Asian routes has offset the decline. For fiscal 2026, passenger traffic is expected to increase further, with domestic travel forecast at 101% of current levels and international traffic at 105%. The company also announced plans to invest ¥32.6 billion in fiscal 2026 to upgrade facilities, including a large complex connected to the domestic terminal scheduled for completion in fiscal 2027.
