Fukuoka Bankruptcies Hit 24-Year High In FY2024

Corporate bankruptcies in Fukuoka Prefecture reached 475 cases in fiscal 2024, a 19% increase over the previous year and the highest total since FY2000, according to Teikoku Databank. The service industry accounted for the most failures with 151 cases, followed by retail (105) and construction (87). Rising raw material costs and labor shortages—exacerbated by new overtime regulations known as the “2024 Problem”—were key factors. Analysts warn that insolvencies may continue to rise unless pricing flexibility improves for small and mid-sized firms. Source: NHK
