Fukuoka Chuo Post Office and “AEON” to be rebuilt in the 2030s

Japan Post and AEON Kyushu announced on December 8 that they had submitted an outline plan to Fukuoka City to proceed with a project to rebuild the Fukuoka Chuo Post Office and the AEON Shoppers Fukuoka commercial facility. The project will be completed in phases, with completion in the 2030s. The plan is to begin with, the reconstruction of the post office, followed by the reconstruction of the AEON Shoppers. The Fukuoka Chuo Post Office was built in 1982, facing Showa Street, and the AEON Shoppers Fukuoka store was built in 1971 as a Daiei store, but each had become decrepit. Last week, the Shintencho Shopping Street Association, which has been in existence since 1946 after the war, and local businesses also applied to the city for redevelopment plans, as they are eligible for preferential treatment if they submit their plans by the end of December for Fukuoka City’s “Tenjin Big Bang” redevelopment promotion project.
