Fukuoka City Achieved Zero Euthanasia in 2019

Fukuoka City achieved zero euthanasia of all healthy dogs and cats in the fiscal year of 2019. During the past five years, the city worked in collaboration with local volunteer groups and animal hospitals to save the lives of dogs and cats. While 574 animals were brought into the regional shelter during the past year, all adoptable and treatable ones (*except for 230 incurable cases) including kittens and puppies were found homes. Approximately 60 ‘milk volunteers’ members in the region contributed significantly to the achievement by nursing newborns until they were ready for adoption. The city facilitates adoptions of these animals at the municipal home animal promotion center (家庭動物啓発センター) in Nishi Ward. (*reservations are required before making a visit to prevent the new coronavirus: 092-891-1231/weekdays 8:30~17:00.) Source: Fukuoka City
