Fukuoka City Announces Major Park Renewals

On the 23rd, Mayor Takashima of Fukuoka City held a press conference announcing major renovations for three parks, including Seiryu Park.

Seiryu Park, a venue for this year’s “Nakasu Jazz” and located near Canal City Hakata, will be transformed into a leisure destination. It will host seating areas, cafes, and all-day dining options. Plans also include a permanent “Water and Light Show” around Haruyoshi Bridge to enhance night-time experiences by the river. Mayor Takashima expressed hopes for the riverside to become a new night spot, complementing food stalls along the river, to support “one more night in Fukuoka.”

Higashi Hirao Park Otani Square will be redeveloped into an inclusive park, offering cafes and facilities accessible to children with disabilities. Fukuoka City will utilize the “Park PFI system” to engage private expertise in renewing these parks, including Meiji Park near Hakata Station. The renewed parks are set to open in stages from Spring 2025. Source: Fukuoka City / KBC
