Fukuoka City COVID-19 Cases Triple in a Month

In Fukuoka City, there has been a concerning increase in COVID-19 infections, with numbers tripling in just one month. The city’s medical association warned of the potential strain on healthcare providers, urging residents to follow basic prevention measures such as handwashing. The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Fukuoka City reached 1,387 in the week leading up to July 23, marking a 3.6-fold increase compared to the same period one month earlier. In a press conference, the president of the Fukuoka City Medical Association, Yasuhiko Hirata, pointed out that the average number of patients per medical institution is now 27.2, approaching the warning level typically seen with seasonal influenza, which is 30 patients.

Hirata analyzed the situation, emphasizing that the virus might be spreading in air-conditioned rooms with groups of people and inadequate ventilation due to the ongoing heatwave. He called for diligence in vaccine administration and basic infection prevention measures. Additionally, the medical association drew attention to influenza numbers in Fukuoka City, noting that the patient count per institution was about 3.5 times the national average, and called for flu prevention efforts as well.
