Fukuoka City Launches PET Bottle Recycling Project

Fukuoka City will launch a bottle-to-bottle plastic recycling program this April. Most of the PET bottles collected in Fukuoka City have been recycled into other products such as food trays. Few companies in the city have the technology to recycle used PET bottles back into PET bottles. However, to reduce plastic waste, the city will begin a pilot program next month to recycle the bottles as PET bottles for repeated use. In Fukuoka City, plastic waste from households increased by approximately 62,000 tons in FY2020.  Source: NHK
