Fukuoka City Making Strides With Well Being Policies

Fukuoka City is pursuing policies of well-being that incorporate sustained life happiness and fulfillment in life for its citizens. To realize this concept, Fukuoka City led the private sector in launching two measures: “Declaration of Interval between Work Hours” and “Declaration of 100% Male Maternity Leave. To improve the health and productivity of employees, Fukuoka City will increase the interval between the end of the workday and the beginning of the workday from the current 9 hours to 11 hours in principle to ensure sufficient rest time. Fukuoka City was the first municipality in Japan to announce this “Work Interval Declaration. Fukuoka City will also promote the use of childcare leave by male employees, which was 34.7% last fiscal year, to achieve a 100% take-up rate. These efforts are being promoted based on advice from Work-Life Balance, a consulting firm for workstyle reform. Fukuoka City has declared to promote activities on its own to spread these efforts to the private sector. Source: KBC
