The Fukuoka City branch of office rental broker Miki Shoji reported that the average amount of unoccupied space in the city’s office buildings increased by 0.26% from the previous month to 9.37%, the ninth consecutive monthly downturn. Miki Shoji said that not only do all new office buildings have unoccupied space, but the companies that rent space at existing buildings are cutting back on the amount of office space they use. The downturn is attributed to the expensive rents charged at new office buildings built by foreign capital-affiliated investment funds and the downturn in the regional economy.
