Fukuoka City To Change Airport Baggage Tag Code

City officials have scheduled a press event for noon April 1 to announce a proposal to change the city’s three-letter baggage tag code. If approved by city council, the code will change from the current IATA airport code FUK to FUN. City spokesperson Hiroshi Bento said “Fukuoka will be one of three cities in Kyushu to host Rugby World Cup matches this autumn attracting many more overseas visitors than usual. We believe the city can further improve its already very favorable image by changing its airport code to FUN. Mr. Bento continues, “After all, who doesn’t want to go to somewhere that is FUN?” Statistics support this theory. The number of foreign visitors to Fukuoka in 2018 reached 3,094,000, a 4% increase year-on-year and the first time the number has topped 3 million. Fukuoka is clearly a FUN city!
