Fukuoka City announced a planned reduction of the number of students per class at municipal elementary and junior high schools to 35 or less during the school year of 2021. The city has appropriated a budget of ¥460 million to secure classrooms and teachers for the additional 308 classes. The program aims to improve school safety amidst the spread of the new coronavirus by avoiding congestion in classrooms. Also, the local educational committee intends to seek the central government’s support to allocate more teachers. Source: Yomiuri
