Fukuoka City to See Earliest Sakura Blossom in Japan

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on March 2nd its sakura blooming forecast for this year. According to the agency, Fukuoka City is expected to bloom on March 14th, which is eight days earlier than the average date. The agency also predicts that Fukuoka City and Kochi City will be the first cities in Japan to see sakura blossoms this year, three days earlier than last year and eight days earlier than the average date. The warmer weather forecasted for mid-March is believed to contribute to this early blooming, with full bloom expected on March 23rd. Other cities in Kyushu region are expected to see earlier blooms than usual as well, with Kumamoto and Miyazaki expected to bloom on March 16th, Nagasaki, Saga, and Oita on March 18th, and Kagoshima on March 19th, all five to seven days earlier than the average date. Meanwhile, the private weather company, Weathermap, predicts a slightly different schedule, with Fukuoka expected to bloom on March 17th, Kumamoto on March 20th, Nagasaki and Saga on March 21st, Miyazaki on March 23rd, and Oita and Kagoshima on March 24th.
