Fukuoka Company Penalized for Misleading Customers on Cancellation Rights

Fukuoka-based company Itoken and its 56-year-old president have been suspended from business for three months under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions. Authorities say the firm falsely told customers they could not cancel hot water pipe installation contracts, misleading them about their cooling-off rights. The company had been securing contracts worth tens of thousands to millions of yen through in-home sales visits.

Since late 2023, consumer centers received 446 complaints about Itoken, most from residents over 60 years old. Officials are urging the public to report any suspicious home repair offers, especially those related to plumbing and renovation. Source: NHK
