Fukuoka Corona Alert Re-issued

In Fukuoka Prefecture, the number of new cases announced on July 6 exceeded 2,000, and the utilization rate of hospital beds exceeded 15%. As a result, Fukuoka Prefecture issued its corona alert on the same day. This is the first time the corona alert has been in effect since it was lifted on the first of last month. At a press conference, Governor Hattori called for free testing and vaccination and basic infection control measures such as avoidance of three close-packed areas and ventilation. On the other hand, Fukuoka Prefecture will not request restaurants to shorten their business hours. As for factors contributing to the spread of infection, he said, “The immunity acquired after the third dose of the vaccine has gradually weakened, the increase in opportunities for person-to-person contact, and the replacement of the Omicron strain with a new strain, ‘BA.5,’ are all contributing factors.
