A group of researchers at Fukuoka Dental College identified intestinal bacteria as a critical cause of periodontitis. Professor Yoshihiko Tanaka, Junichi Nagao, and other team members confirmed that bacteria that cause periodontitis activates one of immune cells in the intestine; the reaction also translocates those Th17 cells and progresses the oral disease. The report was published on CellReports on Sep. 7. Source: Fukuoka Dental College / KBC
