Fukuoka Dialect Ranks First in Online Search

Fukuoka dialect ‘chikappa’ topped a ranking of the most frequently-searched Japanese dialects. The ranking was based on the number of searches on Yahoo! during 7/31 and 8/1. Chikappa, which means “very,” was the only word that appeared on the list as a Kyushu dialect. The origin of the word is unknown. It carries a stronger meaning than that of similar words such as ‘bari’ and ‘erai.’ Source:  Yahoo! Japan
