The International Swimming Federation (FINA) has decided to prohibit athletes affiliated with Russian and Belarusian clubs from participating in the World Aquatics Masters Championships, following a similar decision for the World Aquatics Championships. Both events are due to take place in Fukuoka and other Japanese cities this year.
Scheduled for July 14-30, theWorld Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka had already barred the participation of athletes and officials from Russia and Belarus due to Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. Following this, the World Aquatics Masters Championships, a competition for swimming enthusiasts, will take place from August 2-11 in Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima. Approximately 10,000 participants from around 100 countries and regions are expected to attend.
Fukuoka officials have been notified by FINA that athletes from Russian and Belarusian clubs will not be permitted to participate in the World Aquatics Masters Championships. However, those with Russian and Belarusian citizenship can still participate if they are affiliated with clubs from other countries. Source: NHK
