Fukuoka Gears Up for America’s Cup

This November, Fukuoka will welcome the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series. This is the first time for an America’s Cup race to be held in Asia in its 165-year history. From Nov. 18 to 20, Fukuoka’s Hakata Bay will host the ninth qualifying round. In anticipation of the event, SoftBank Team Japan’s Dean Barker (team CEO and skipper) and Kazuhiko Sofuku (general manager) visited Mayor Soichiro Takashima at Fukuoka City Hall on Sep. 5, and presented him with a gift. Qualifying rounds for the America’s Cup have been in progress since July 2015. SoftBank Team Japan is currently in fourth place (out of six teams); they expect to catch up soon.
