Fukuoka households prepare for the fluorescent-light phaseout

Fukuoka households are switching to LED lighting ahead of the ban on manufacturing, importing and exporting general-purpose fluorescent lamps by the end of 2027. The phaseout follows an international agreement to reduce mercury use. Existing fluorescent lamps can still be used, and remaining stock can still be purchased. Local retailer Kano Denki says it handles about 30 lighting-fixture replacement jobs a month. The report recommends replacing aging fixtures rather than simply changing bulbs, citing fire risks associated with older equipment. Source: FBS News / Ministry of the Environment
