Malaysia Airlines resumed service between Fukuoka and Kuala Lumpur on Sept. 3 after a six-and-a-half-year suspension. The first inbound flight arrived shortly after 7 a.m. and received a water salute at Fukuoka Airport. The route will operate five round trips, or 10 flights, each week. Fukuoka Prefecture recorded more than 43,000 overnight stays by Malaysian visitors last year. Airport officials hope the restored connection will increase international exchange and encourage travelers to continue on to destinations including Kumamoto and Kagoshima.
