Fukuoka Launches Satellite Leak Detection Pilot With Startups

The city of Fukuoka has initiated a public call for businesses to participate in a pilot project that will utilize satellites to detect water leaks in underground pipes. The announcement was made by Mayor Takashima during a press conference. The city aims to support the growth of innovative startups and businesses by inviting them to participate in various demonstration experiments. The first pilot project will involve using microwaves emitted from satellites to check for water leaks in buried water pipes. The application period for interested businesses runs from April 19th to May 12th, with the demonstration experiments planned from late May until the end of September. The results of the pilot will be evaluated by the city and external experts, with local startups and businesses receiving preferential treatment. If a technology receives a favorable evaluation, including in terms of cost, the company may enter into a contract with the city. Mayor Takashima stated that the initiative aims to provide support to startups and help them establish stable businesses by adopting their services within the administration.
