Fukuoka Man Defrauded of ¥54 Million in Cryptocurrency Scam

A 39-year-old company executive in Fukuoka’s Hakata Ward fell victim to a cryptocurrency scam, losing approximately ¥54 million. The scam began in May 2024, when the man received a message from an individual claiming to be a Japanese woman living in Taiwan, connected to a British billionaire. After developing trust, the victim was convinced to invest in gold through a fraudulent app, eventually making 15 transfers of cryptocurrency. He realized the scam when asked to pay an additional ¥6 million to withdraw his supposed profits. Police have issued a warning about investment scams on social media. Source: KBC
