Fukuoka Mitsukoshi To Downsize Department Store Floors in Renovation

Iwataya Mitsukoshi, a subsidiary of Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings, announced on February 25 that it will renovate Fukuoka Mitsukoshi in Tenjin, reducing its traditional department store space and expanding specialty retail floors. Renovation work will begin in late March while the store remains open, with a full reopening planned for autumn 2027. The current nine department store floors will be reduced to six, from the second basement to the fourth floor, while the specialty zone “Lachic Fukuoka Tenjin” will expand to five floors. The operator aims to attract younger customers in their 20s and 30s, including inbound visitors, as part of efforts to improve performance and respond to changing consumer demand.
