Fukuoka Opens 890 Cooling Spots

Fukuoka City launched its annual “Cool Share Fukuoka” campaign on June 1, opening approximately 890 air-conditioned cooling spots across the city to help prevent heat-related illness during periods of extreme heat. The initiative started about three weeks earlier than usual due to persistent high temperatures. Participating locations include community centers, pharmacies, convenience stores, commercial facilities, and public institutions. At the Fukuoka City Science Museum, designated rest areas with seating and drinking water refill stations were made available to visitors. City officials said the program encourages residents and visitors to take breaks indoors while traveling or spending time outside. The cooling spots will remain open through the end of September as part of the city’s seasonal heatstroke prevention efforts. Source: KBC News / Fukuoka City
