Fukuoka Prefecture has launched the “Fukuoka Semiconductor Reskilling Center,” a unique initiative to nurture talent in the semiconductor industry. This first-of-its-kind effort among local governments in Japan aims to make Fukuoka a global hub for the semiconductor industry. The center offers both online and in-person courses in semiconductor design, manufacturing, and practical skills such as automobile engine control. Tuition fees will be subsidized for employees of small and medium-sized enterprises in Fukuoka, making the courses effectively free. The head of the center, Professor Tadahiro Kuroda, emphasized the global importance of human resources in the semiconductor field and expressed hopes to expand the initiative across Japan and Asia.
