Fukuoka Police Stress Helmet Use Amid Accidents

This year, the number of traffic fatalities in Fukuoka has increased compared to last year. On the 24th, Fukuoka Prefectural Police provided guidance to cyclists and others at accident-prone intersections in Fukuoka City. At the Shimizu intersection in Minami Ward, Fukuoka City, where the “DJ Police” of the prefectural police were stationed, there have been numerous accidents involving cars turning right or left and colliding with bicycles crossing the intersection. The police called for adherence to traffic rules and wearing helmets. According to Fukuoka Prefectural Police, about 60% of those who died in bicycle-related accidents sustained fatal head injuries. Although it is not a legal requirement, the police strongly encourage the use of helmets. As of yesterday, there have been 36 traffic fatalities in Fukuoka this year, 18 more than the previous year. The Fukuoka Prefectural Police has issued a traffic fatality alert and plans to intensify enforcement in accident-prone areas. Source: KBC
