According to a Fukuoka City survey, the population of Fukuoka is increasing. The current population of Fukuoka city is 1,480,000, making it the 6th most populated city– however it is estimated that by 2020, Fukuoka will take 5th place. By 2023, the population is estimated to be above 1,600,000. Chuo-ku and Hakata-ku are the two areas of the city where population growth is concentrated.
