Fukuoka Prefecture plans to designate some medical facilities to specialize in treating COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms. Governor Hiroshi Ogawa explained at a press conference on March 30 that the prefecture’s capacity to hospitalize patients of the new coronavirus is currently limited to 66 beds at twelve medical institutions. To prepare for a potential surge of the patients, including those who are on dialysis, the prefecture will establish a head office to facilitate cooperation amongst local hospitals and other related institutions.
