Fukuoka Prefecture is preparing to resume requests for shorter hours at eateries in Fukuoka City, reflecting on the emergence of a fourth wave of the new coronavirus infection. During the past five days, the prefecture reported over 100 daily infections. An increasing percentage of new strains of the COVID-19 virus has been recorded. As a step before requesting the implementation of stricter anti-coronavirus measures to the national government, the prefecture will ask some eateries to close by 21:00 for about one month. The policy will be finalized after a task-force meeting on April 19. Meanwhile, the prefecture is expanding the number of hospital beds for COVID-19 treatments from the current 802 to 1,220.
