The Kyushu Economic Research Center surveyed the opinions of Fukuoka Prefecture residents of the large-scale municipal mergers conducted in recent years, and found that only about 30% rated them highly. The survey was conducted over the Internet in June of the residents of 15 municipalities involved in the mergers. The primary reason cited for the lack of enthusiasm was that the promised improvement in government services hasn’t materialized.
