Fukuoka Signs Circular Economy Agreement

Fukuoka Prefecture signed a cooperation agreement with the Japan Research Institute and Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing to advance circular-economy initiatives involving EV batteries, solar panels, plastics, and other materials. Governor Hattori said the partnership would build on earlier pilot projects that struggled to become financially sustainable. The agreement aims to use private-sector expertise and data to create practical recycling systems. The prefecture said this was the first comprehensive circular-economy agreement of its kind between a local government and private partners in Japan, and that the framework is intended to support long-term commercial viability.
