A mass vaccination campaign for pigs against Classical Swine Fever (CSF) began in Fukuoka Prefecture on September 19. The initiative follows a recommendation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, who added Fukuoka and six other Kyushu prefectures to the vaccination list on September 5 after confirmed CSF cases in Saga Prefecture. While Fukuoka has not seen any cases since 1981, authorities aim to vaccinate around 80,000 pigs and wild boars as a preventive measure. Initial efforts focus on Itoshima City, near Saga, and will expand to cover the entire county by early October. Local authorities also stressed that vaccinated pork is safe for human consumption and urged farmers to maintain proper sanitation. Source: NHK / Fukuoka Prefecture
