Fukuoka Subway Boosts Service to Ease Congestion

To address rising congestion, the Nanakuma subway line in Fukuoka City will add six round trips during peak hours from August 19th. This decision comes after passenger counts increased to 1.5 times pre-pandemic levels since the line’s March extension. Despite efforts to promote “off-peak commuting,” congestion remains an issue. The new schedule reduces wait times to every 3 minutes 15 seconds in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening. The city is also considering adding more train cars, but decisions hinge on congestion patterns. Source: Fukuoka City Subway / NHK
