Taxi fares in the Fukuoka metropolitan area, including Fukuoka City and Kasuga City, will increase from July 1 following approval by the Kyushu District Transport Bureau. The revision follows applications for fare changes submitted by 81 taxi operators between December and March. For standard taxis, the upper limit of the initial fare will change from Y830 for the first 1.6 kilometers to Y600 for the first 1.1 kilometers, resulting in a higher effective fare structure. Additional charges will also increase from Y80 per 268 meters to Y100 per 287 meters traveled. Operators cited rising fuel costs and wage increases needed to attract and retain drivers as the primary reasons for the adjustment. Source: KBC News / Nikkei
