The International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE), an international organization working for the commercial utilization of fuel cells, will hold its Steering Committee Meeting in Fukuoka this November. Government officials in charge of energy policy from 18 countries and regions will attend the meeting to discuss its activities for the next 10 years. In August 2004, the Fukuoka Strategy Conference for Hydrogen Energy was established in a collaborative effort among industry, government and academia to conduct research and development on hydrogen and initiate pilot programs. Since then, the Conference has worked to integrate various technologies and develop related industries through projects such as Kitakyushu Hydrogen Town. With hydrogen gaining more attention as an energy source of the next generation, Fukuoka’s efforts have received high marks, thereby leading to the IPHE’s decision to hold its meeting here.
