Fukuoka to Raise Senior Travel Benefits

Fukuoka City announced plans to increase the annual value of its transportation voucher program for senior residents beginning in fiscal 2027. The program supports citizens aged 70 and older with annual incomes below ¥2 million by helping cover travel costs on public transportation and taxis. The maximum annual benefit will rise from ¥12,000 to ¥15,000, reflecting recent increases in transportation fares. Mayor Soichiro Takashima said the city hopes the expanded support will make travel easier for older residents, encourage more frequent outings, and contribute to healthier lifestyles through greater social participation. The program forms part of the city’s broader efforts to support mobility and independence among its aging population. Source: TVQ News / Fukuoka City
