Fukuoka to Revamp Two Parks, Adding New Cafes and Event Spaces by 2026

Fukuoka City is set to transform two of its prominent parks, Kashiihama Kita Park in Higashi Ward and Nagatare Seaside Park in Nishi Ward, through the Park-PFI initiative. This initiative, which utilizes private sector expertise, is designed to enhance the functionality and appeal of public spaces by integrating new amenities and improving overall management.

At Kashiihama Kita Park, the redevelopment plan includes the creation of “Umi no Terrace,” a scenic wooden structure featuring large decks and terraces that offer stunning views of the waterfront. This area will include popular eateries such as “Anzu Café,” “Red Brooklyn,” and a direct meat factory outlet, making it a vibrant community space where visitors can relax and enjoy the view. The park will also see the installation of wave-shaped flower beds and benches, two event stages by the sea, and upgraded restroom facilities to improve accessibility for all users.

Nagatare Seaside Park’s redevelopment will focus on its natural beauty, with enhancements like a “Seaside Yokocho” featuring a café-restaurant that transforms throughout the day, offering panoramic seaside views. The park will include new open spaces for public use, a revitalized entrance with improved landscaping, and an ocean-view basketball court to appeal to younger visitors. The project also emphasizes sustainable park management, with local companies and community groups playing key roles in maintaining the parks.

Construction for both parks is scheduled to begin in 2025, with Kashiihama Kita Park reopening in Spring 2026 and Nagatare Seaside Park following in Summer 2026. These renovations are expected to make the parks central gathering spots, fostering community engagement and providing residents with enhanced recreational spaces. Source: Fukuoka City
