Fukuoka Urges Water Conservation Amid Low Reservoirs

Fukuoka City called on residents to conserve water as reservoir levels continued to decline due to prolonged low rainfall in northern Kyushu. Mayor Soichiro Takashima said water supply conditions were expected to worsen, noting that rainfall has remained below average since September last year. Dams in the Chikugo River basin, which supply roughly one-third of the Fukuoka metropolitan area’s tap water, are currently under a 30% intake restriction. As of January 30, combined storage at six related dams stood at just over 20%. City officials warned the situation could become more severe and urged households to reduce consumption by reusing bathwater and turning off taps frequently. Source: KBC News / RKB News
