Fukuoka City announced on December 8 that it will waive two months of household sewerage fees instead of distributing government-promoted rice coupons, using national support funds to offset rising living costs. The city added about ¥127 billion to its supplementary budget, including ¥74 billion from a flexible central subsidy. Fees for February and March meter readings will be fully waived, covering basic and usage charges, saving households an estimated ¥3,350 on average. About 900,000 households will qualify, while homes without sewer connections will receive reductions in related service fees.
