Fukuoka’s First Four-Year Music University to Open in 2026

Japan’s Ministry of Education has approved the establishment of Fukuoka International University of Music (Fukuoka Kokusai Ongaku Daigaku)—the prefecture’s first four-year music university—scheduled to open in Dazaifu in April 2026. Operated by Takagi Gakuen, which runs several schools in Fukuoka, the new university will use the former facilities of Fukuoka Women’s Junior College’s music department. It plans to enroll 80 students in its first year across two programs: music performance and music business, the latter incorporating ICT to prepare students for careers in entertainment and creative industries. The school also intends to partner with the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra for concerts and community outreach. Source: Fukuoka International University of Music
