Fukuoka’s Governor Announces Top ten News Stories of 2020

On Dec. 22, Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture, Hiroshi Ogawa, announced ‘ten most important news stories of 2020.’ The new coronavirus outbreak ranked first, as it impacted the local economy and citizens’ lifestyles. The continued occurrence of natural disasters ranked second. Also, he selected the character of “発: hatsu” as kanji of the year; which is used for words such as ‘occurrences (発生)’ of unexpected events and future ‘development (発展)’ after hardships.
