Fukuoka’s Part-Time Wages Rise for 18th Consecutive Month

Recruit, on June 14, reported a continuous rise in part-time wages in Fukuoka Prefecture, marking the 18th month of uninterrupted year-on-year growth. The average hourly wage in May reached ¥1,020, up ¥23 (2.3%) from the same period in the previous year. This trend of increasing wages, particularly notable in the food and drink industry, has emerged in the post-pandemic era as businesses strive to ensure adequate staffing.

The data was derived from part-time job postings on Recruit’s own job recruitment platform, spanning from May 1 to 31. Segmenting the data by industry revealed the food sector as the primary driver of this growth, experiencing an hourly wage increase of ¥45 (4.8%) to ¥980. The sales and service industry followed suit, seeing a wage increase of ¥32 (3.3%) to ¥1,000, while manufacturing, logistics, and cleaning services noted a smaller increase of ¥18 (1.8%) to ¥1,032.
