Castella confectioner Fukusaya, founded in 1624 and based in Nagasaki, will build a new factory in Machida, Tokyo, set to open in June 2026. The ¥5.5 billion investment, including ¥1.7 billion in government subsidies, will double the company’s production capacity to meet growing demand for its popular small-box castella products. The new facility will replace the aging current factory in Meguro, expanding total floor space to 5,500 m2 and increasing the number of production lines from six to twelve. Fukusaya will also maintain its traditional hand-mixing techniques while introducing automation in inspection processes. Plans for a new factory in Isahaya, Nagasaki, are also underway, with operations expected post-2027. Source: Fukusaya
