Spicy mentaiko maker Fukuya has announced additional support for the struggling J2 soccer club Fukuoka Avispa. On Nov. 1 the company started selling specially-marked packages of its trademark spicy pollock roe and will donate the full price of each item until it reaches a target of ¥5 million yen. An official from Fukuya stated, “We have heard the calls from the Avispa supporters who want to keep the team here. We hope other companies will pitch in, too.” The products earmarked for support are 1,000 packages of Support Avispa: Happy Gift Set (¥3,000), a factory-direct mentaiko set with free shipping, and 4,000 packages of Support Avispa: Ika Mentaiko (¥500) available only at Fukuya shops. The gift set comes with an Avispa player card, and orders can be placed by phone or online. Fukuya has been an Avispa sponsor since the summer of 2007. Source: Nishinippon Shimbun 11/1
