The project team of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party for promoting Shinkansen construction has decided that construction should begin in 2009 on the sections of the western Kyushu route where work has yet to start. This would also include the remodeling of the Nagasaki JR station to include a Shinkansen platform. Discussions will be held with Nagasaki City and Nagasaki Prefecture on the work to be performed near the station, and final decisions will be made later.
