Smile Station Kotabe, a gas station managed by female staff, opened on Jun. 10 at 8:00. Shin-Idemitsu Co., Ltd. held an in-house idea contest in 2013, and a female member of staff proposed the development of a female-friendly gas station, managed by women, for women. Over the course of nine meetings from October 2015 to February 2016, every aspect of the gas station was discussed and ways found to make the place more female-friendly. The facility includes a rest area with a self-service cafe for women busy with work, housework and raising children to take a breather (free coffee for those who fill up on gas), a clean and spacious bathroom with a baby seat and dresser for applying make-up, a kids space and a car wash service (includes aroma oil). From Jun. 17 (Fri.) to Jun. 19 (Sun.), those visiting the gas station can win discounts and gifts, including home appliances and tickets for a resort hotel (more info).
