Gasoline Prices in Kyushu–Okinawa Remain Japan’s Highest

Average retail prices for regular gasoline in Kyushu and Okinawa fell to ¥173 per liter as of November 25, according to the Oil Information Center, reflecting ongoing government subsidies. The weekly decline was 1.6 yen, yet the region remained the most expensive nationwide, six yen higher than Tohoku. Kagoshima recorded ¥179.9, the highest in Japan, followed by Nagasaki, Miyazaki, and Okinawa. Although government subsidies rose by a total of 10 yen per liter by November 27 ahead of the provisional gasoline tax repeal, regional prices have fallen only 4.5 yen since early November. Officials said pre-subsidy fuel stocks at stations may be delaying retail price adjustments. Source: Agency for Natural Resources and Energy
