Gasoline prices around Kyushu are soaring. As of Jan. 24, Nagasaki Prefecture recorded Japan’s highest average price of ¥177.5/l. Kagoshima also hit an average price of ¥177.0/l. Prices in these regions reflect extra shipping costs, as there is only one gasoline production facility in all of Kyushu. The national government plans to start a price control program. The program would cover ¥3.4/l of the gasoline prices. This is the first time average prices have reached this mark since the 2008 financial crisis. Source: NHK / FNN / MBC
