Golden Week Traffic Predicted To Be High

The Golden Week holiday weekend will soon be upon us. Although there will be no restrictions on inter-prefectural travel this year, people are still being urged to take basic measures such as wearing masks and washing hands to prevent the spread of the latest strain of coronavirus. Meanwhile, transportation facilities during the major holidays are showing signs of recovery, as reservations for domestic flights to and from Fukuoka Airport have returned to nearly 70% of the pre-corona level. According to Fukuoka Airport, approximately 330,000 people booked domestic flights, including departures and arrivals, between April 29 and May 8. This is a 30% increase compared to the same period last year. According to West Nippon Expressway, peak congestion on expressways throughout Kyushu is expected to be on the 29th and 4th of next month. And according to JR Kyushu, reservations for the Shinkansen and limited express trains will peak on the 29th of this month and on May 5. Reservations for the Kyushu Shinkansen and Sanyo Shinkansen are 1.5 to 2 times higher than last year, but only about half of those before the Corona disaster. Source: NHK
