The governments of the city of Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, and Japan (as represented by the Kyushu Bureau for National Forest Management) signed a memorandum pledging to work together to preserve the 216-hectare Niji-no-Matsubara pine forest stretching for 50 kilometers along the coast of Karatsu Bay. The forest is threatened by pine-eating insects and the growth of broadleaf trees. A plan for its preservation was formulated in March, and this memorandum is an agreement to work together to implement the plan.
